Star Trek: Voyager #1 - Caretaker By L A Graf Published By Pocket Books ISBN: 0-671-51914-x
Caretaker is the first book from Star Trek Voyager series. It introduces the crews of two ships. Chakotay, B'Elanna Torres and Tuvok are the crew of a small Maquis vessel, which disappears while heading into the badlands after fighting the Cardassians who attempt to follow the Maquis.
It also introduces us to the crew of the U.S.S Voyager, Captain Kathryn Janeway, First officer Cavit, Ensign Harry Kim, Stadi and Tom Paris, who is the observer but is the only person who knows the badlands and possibly the location of the Maquis base well enough.
Tuvok is Janeway's chief of security who has gone undercover to discover everything he can about the Maquis for Starfleet but things don't go to plan and the Maquis along with Tuvok go missing without a trace.
If that's not bad enough things don't go well for Tom Paris either after rescuing Harry Kim from a Ferengi who attempts to sell Lobi crystals at an inflated price. Tom and Harry make their way to Voyager's sickbay. Tom Paris past finely catches up with him and Dr Fitzgerald and nearly everyone, except for Kim and Janeway treat Paris like he shouldn't be aloud anywhere near a starship or people.
Captain Janeway takes Voyager into the Badlands and meets the same problem that the Maquis ship did and is hauled 70,000 light years from home. The ship arrives in the delta quadrant.
This book is great you get to know what Cavit, Stadi Dr Fitzgerald and nurse feel before they die and there more descriptions like this though out the book. Janeway doesn't trust Paris enough to do anything, as she and the rest of the surviving crew begin clearing up and making repairs.
You get to meet Neelix the talaxian trader who knows everything about the Delta Quadrant and has heard it all before.
His girlfriend Kes the adventurous Ocampa who is being mistreated by the Kazon-Ogla even though she is made to fetch and carry.
Neelix feels sorry for her and with the help of the Voyager and Marqus crew rescue Kes from the Kazon. You also see that Tom Paris fancies Kes from the start.
The two crews work together to rescue B'Elanna and Harry who have the misfortune to be ill after the caretaker tests them and the rest of the crew to see if "they were compatible". Also learn to trust each other calling themselves Maquis and Starfleet to easy the tension when they find themselves in a strange room.
In the end after a battle one of the ships is destroyed and both crews have to learn to work together, the array gets destroyed and both crews face the prospect of a long journey home. The Maquis crew are hostile towards the Federation crew and resent the fact that Captain Janeway stranded them in the delta quadrant.
As with nearly all books that are TV tie-ins there are differences but not many. There are some wonderful photographs as well.
This is the first book in the series from Star Trek: Voyager with more to follow.

The crew of the U.S.S Voyager discovers what looks to be signs of the Caretaker's companion. But the area of space that will lead them to away home is a war zone. Neelix who is Voyager's resident guide strongly recommends against venturing into that region of space but they go there anyway much to Neelix's disbelief.
There is a lot of action with the crew as Voyager makes its way to the source of the beam's origin they also discover several planets that have suffered because of the war.
Once there Voyager is surrounded by both the Hachai and the P'nir and Janeway decides that since she has seen the results it has had on the Hachai and the P'nir home world's. The only hope of ending this war is to get the two sides talking. But the away team get taken prisoner and it is all down to Ensign Kim to help the rest of the away team to escape and return to Voyager before the P'nir ship they're on is destroyed.
This book is Nathan Archer's first book for the Voyager series and is good; I found the story enjoyable and it left me with a few unanswered questions. It's a shame that other reviewers of this book seem to think that this book is only worth getting to fill a gap between books 2 and 4. But as it say at the top of this page doesn't take my word for it read it yourself and make your own mind up.

Undeterred the crew enter the space only to find that there are several things happening and that could mean death for a planet and all its population. How Verunas the look gives Paris the creeps but he quickly gets over the fact when they save his life when he collapses from the heat. When he comes to, he discovers to his surprise that they have shuttlecraft. Anyway, the away team help them to get the shuttles flight worthy but they also make the discovery that the Verunas have been through this before and lucky for them one of there original craft as a tutorial on how to fly the craft. So they can rescue their friends from the sun eater.
This is Christie Golden's first book in the Voyager series and I'm sure we will see more books from this author in the future. This book is action packed and the author has really understood the characters from the TV show.

Star Trek: Voyager #16 - Seven Of Nine By Christie Golden Published by Pocket Books ISBN: 0671-02491-4
This book is set after the events of the Star Trek: Voyager episode "The Raven" and has references to other episodes as well from season four.
While visiting Lhiaarian Empire Seven of Nine begins to see 'Ravens' which no one else can see. But things get much worse for her when she starts having visions. I think Keela is some sort of cat or a bird. Whatever she is, Seven is herself and Keela at the same time.
As I said the story is set after the episode "The Raven" and uses Harry Kim's romantic attraction that he had at the time of the episode. So it is Harry who finds that Seven is not with the rest of the away team and he's the one that finds her and gets her to sickbay. Harry and Janeway are also the ones most concerned about Seven of Nine's well being other than the doctor.
This book is also a good example of the Prime Directive and the author goes into great detail, where Starfleet help others but won't interfere in the way a world is being run. Emperor Beytek gets carried everywhere while his servants have to wait for him to sit down on his cushion and eat before they can do the same. Also the rest of the planets population, and some of the other surrounding planets in the empire suffer while the emperor has his luxuries.
All the way through the book the number of black birds steadily increases. Seven is not only Keela but also has to struggle with other personalities as well.
While this is all going on Voyager is transporting the Skedans who are refugees to a new place to live. You can see where the Tom Paris fatherly pride kicks in, well before the season seven episode "Lineage" or "Endgame" and this is in a book, which was out in season four! When B'Elanna and Tom had only just admitted they had romantic feeling for each other.
On top of all that, someone dies but I'm not going to tell you who. You will have to read the book to find out.
I could go on but to say this book is very good, is not doing it or the author justice!

Flashback By Diane Carey Published By Pocket Books ISBN: 0-671-00383-6
This book is the novelisation of the Voyager episode Flashback . Which celebrated Star Trek's 30th Anniversary. It is also the first Voyager novelisation to be written by the author, although she has written many other Star Trek books. This is the first book in the Voyager series that I know of.
When the crew of the USS Voyager discover 'Sirillium' and begin to make plans on how best to use it, everyone thinks their idea is the best. Tuvok begins to lose his Vulcan control while on the bridge. Janeway knows this and tries to prevent anyone else from realising that there is something wrong but then asks for his assistantance. When Tuvok doesn't reply everyone on the bridge knows that there is something wrong.
Tuvok then struggles to sickbay for help and collapses just as Kes and eventually the Doctor come to his aid. Tuvok asks Kes to contact the captain before he will even consider treatment. Janeway comes as requested. He tells her about the vision and that he has "no memory of the events" So he goes to his quarters to rest but because he is a Vulcan Tuvok spends that time in meditation without success.
Later Tuvok has another vision and he thinks that he and the crew are in the Beta Quadrant collecting sirillum for the U.S.S Excelsior and collapses once again. As the memories are becoming dangerous to the Vulcan the doctor has to sedate him.
While this is happening it is decided that it is too risky to take Voyager in to the nebula so Tom and B'Elanna take a shuttlecraft and collect the sirillium. But the shuttle gets in to trouble
Janeway discovers that Tuvok served under Captain Sulu and with the help of Harry Kim discover that the Excelsior found an identical nebular all those years ago, but this one isn't well "not according to sensors".
Janeway and Tuvok mind meld so they can sort the problem out but each time he tries instead of going to the cliff they go to the Excelsior then the fun starts. Janeway has the same vision but she also has no memory of this event occurring and Kes who linked with Tuvok when he first arrived in sickbay is also having an equally hard time copping with it. There are a few times when Kes gets overwhelmed by Tuvok's repressed memory and at one point she sedated because the link is so overpowering. Since Kes has no next of kin and she has tied the Doctors hand with his doctor patient confidentially and his ethical program. Once Neelix has to first convince the doc that he should be treated as Kes's next of kin. Neelix is left with the decision should Kes stay sedated or not!
So we have two problems the shuttle and Tuvok but everything works out in the end and we get to learn more about Tuvok and his first but short-lived career in Starfleet.
This book unlike the TV episode is split up into parts and there are also has some nice quotes too.
There is plenty of Kes in this book and as always with books from TV episodes you get a more detailed story.
Such as who put the shuttle in danger, and why Tom Paris has only one sock, these are just two things that happened in the book which were never in the TV Episode.

Mosaic Audio CD Written by Jeri Taylor Read By Kate Mulgrew Published by Pocket Books ISBN: 0-671-00570-7
Having read the book version that I will review at some stage. There are a couple of noticeable differences, It's on three CDs, one of which is a colour picture disk of the cover, it is much shorter than the book with a few thing missing but that's about all.
This version is read by Captain Kathryn Janeway herself (Kate Mulgrew). The story is set twelve months or so after the USS Voyager gets transported into the delta quadrant. This book is the story of Kathryn's life starting with the their present location in the delta quadrant and the on going search for food and the battle with the Kazon.
There are several mysteries, which mostly began with the lightening strike that the away team suffers while on a planets surface.
Kate Mulgrew attempts to do the voices of the other members of the Voyager cast. Some more successful then others but there good enough that you can tell who they supposed to be. You should hear her Kes version. There are some great sound effects, which make the audio version as well as the impressions worth getting.
The listener is also introduced to Phoebe, Hobbs, Emma Mary and Kathryn parents you also find out more about the accident that killed Kathryn Janeway's father and her first mission.
There are two stories working together first the mystery of the second planet and its mysterious relics as well as the telepathic connection that only Kes can sense when she along with Harry are investigating a cave.
You go back into Kathryn's past and discover more things about her past, which explain some of the reasons behind later episodes of the show.
This version is worth getting even if you have the book.

Pathways is the follow up book to Mosaic by Jeri Taylor and but this time in pathways it is the turn of the rest of Voyager's senior staff to tell their stories.
While Captain Janeway takes, the USS Voyager and most of her crew to discuss safe passage though a region of space that they must travel through on their journey home. The rest of the senior staff and some of the crew take time out to enjoy some shore leave on a near by planet. While Tom Paris has decide to take the opportunity to log some time piloting a shuttlecraft and perfecting his dare devil antics. After he has successfully achieved his goal, he discovers that his friends are in trouble. However, Tom soon finds himself facing the same problem. They all end up being captured and taken to a prison colony. While they are using their skills to survive they decide to tell each other their stories beginning with the first officer and how and why he joined the Maquis.
This is the crews first night on the prison planet. Next in line is Harry Kim with his story and so on. The way Jeri Taylor included Kes' story was interesting. But I'm not going to tell you how she did it.
The other bits I liked were the back storys about B'Elanna and Tom
This book really lets you get to know each member of the Voyager crew. I love this book and everything about it I wish Jeri Taylor would write more.
Endgame By Diane Carey Published By Pocket Books ISBN: 0-7434-4216-4
I always look forward to the novelization of any episode and I wasn't disappointed either. I laughed and was close to tears with this book. I have a warped (sorry) sense of humor. So that has probably got something to do with it.
The Future
Voyager is in the Delta Quadrant still searching for a way to go home. After all twenty-six years is a long time for a mission that should only have took a couple of days. Yes, I know Voyager has only been on our TV screens for Seven years.
Admiral Janeway and Commander Reg Barclay are hosting a small family party to celebrate the tenth anniversary of Voyager and her crew getting back to the Alpha Quadrant. But the Admiral has a plain to "make things better for everyone".
Kathryn Janeway is regretting the price her crew had to pay while on their journey from the Delta Quadrant to Federation space. She has decided that she can no longer live with the consequence of that journey. With the help of Reg Barclay, the Klingons and a few others she pays a final visit to Tuvok to say good-bye and that she might not see him again.
The Present
Meanwhile back in the Delta Quadrant. The U.S.S Voyager has finally found what appears to be a way home but just as they begin to check it out they have a close call with a Borg cube and for some unknown reason, which we find out later in the book, the Borg don't detect them.
While retreating to safety Voyager comes across a "subspace rift" which is also how Admiral Janeway manages to get from her time to the present and back to Voyager to help captain Janeway and the crew to go home much earlier than she did. The admiral brings with her new technology, which will help Voyager get home.
Tom Paris is getting more and more nervous as the baby is due and the close call with the Borg cube brings the fact he is going to be a father any day now, home to him. Tom can't keep B'Elanna away from her work in engineering even though they both know that she shouldn't be there.
There is also romance for Commander Chakotay and Neelix gets a mention too even if it is only brief.
The author manages expand the story and it is done in such a way that you don't even notice she has done it. Unlike Caretaker by L A Graf there are no photographs, which is a shame.
This book also includes the first four chapters of Home Coming by Christie Golden, which tells the story of what happens next. The celebrations, the family reunions and the debriefings.
After reading the first few chapters of this new book I can't wait for it to be released but why 2003?
Dark Passions Books 1 and 2 By Susan Wright Published by Pocket Books Dark Passions Book 1 ISBN 0-671-78785-3 Dark Passions Book 2 ISBN 0671-78786-1
Have you ever wonder what your favourite Star Trek characters have been getting up to in the mirror universe?
Now we all know that the crew of Deep Space Nine crossed over to this universe quite a few times during the seven years that Star Trek Deep Space Nine was on our television screens.
Star Trek: Voyager has not, Until Now.
Having read William Shatner's stories which take us to the mirror universe through the adventures of Kirk and crew and eventually meeting up with all the characters from each incarceration of Star Trek to date. These two book got my attention as it mentioned Seven of Nine and the crew of Voyager.
The story mostly centres around Agent Seven of corps nine. Also known as Annika Hanson. Let me just say before I continue that if you have read William Shatner's version of the mirror universe you could well be disappointed with these two books.
The reason for my disappointment was because of one thing and that one thing was the writer seemed to forget from time to time what was happening and who was killing who.
In book one Seven was ordered to kill Duras while she was disguised as a Klingon then she escaped and nothing more was said until the last few pages of book two.
There was more story between Seven and Kira than any other characters. Tom was mentioned at the start of book one and as usual he was taken away, I'm not sure if this was Tom Paris as the only other time Paris was mentioned was in book two and he was described as either some one who wanted to even the score or someone who was quite and reserved. Everybody got a look in Crusher, Bashir Janeway, Chakotay, Kim were mentioned in the final few pages of book two.
All I can say is if you want to read a book about the mirror universe then read William Shatner's books first which have the Voyager crew in them
Dark Passions is a good set of books and if you don't mind a bit of confusion and a story that leaves you with a lot of unanswered questions then read these books. But if you're a big Voyager fan you'll get them any why just because it's Voyager.

Section 31: Shadow By Dean Wesley Smith & Kristine Kathryn Rusch Published By Pocket Books ISBN 0-671-77478-6
While everybody on board Voyager waits to witness the collision of two stars the crew discovers a ship which is trying to get to safety as their planet is right in the path of the of the colliding stars. But the ship hasn't enough speed to avoid the disaster. To prevent the ship and its passengers from being wiped out Janeway decides to help the "Traveller" and asks B'Elanna to go and get Seven to help her and the rest of the Voyager's crew to form a plan to save this vessel and the people on it.
But things take a frightening turn when a series of accidents happen to Seven of Nine and then to other members of the crew but who is doing this is anyone's guess right up till the end of the book. As I said the people on board the traveller were fleeing a disaster but weren't fast enough and need Voyagers help. The young emperor who had only taken over the role from his father a few days before they set out from their home planet had his own disaster to deal with as the traveller is feeling the effects of the stars impending collision.
Janeway discovers that the traveller was not strong enough to take Voyager's tractor beam so they have to come up with another plan mean while on traveller there were lots of injured people in there units who needed help as well as some who were beyond help. But they aren't allowed to leave the unit with out permission from the emperor. Each unit is like a small city.
While the crew of Voyager attempt to put there rescue plan into action event's on board Voyager mean the whole crew must abandon ship and this is later connected with the exploding alcove and other near fatal accidents.
As for it being a Section 31 story well there not mentioned much but then it is a secret organisation so they wouldn't make themselves known, Would they!
There are clues though out the book as to who is responsible but I didn't guess who it was. Although I had an idea, I was way off as it wasn't who thought it was.
Gateways: Book 5 - No Man's Land By Christie Golden Published by Pocket Books ISBN: 0-7434-1857
This book is set sometime during the fourth season of the show.
The crew of the U.S.S Voyager decided to take well-deserved shore leave on a planet that reminds everyone of home (earth). While the crew are having a relaxing time and enjoying themselves with different activities such as rock climbing and painting and any other thing you do when at the seaside. While Tom and B'Elanna are sitting on the rocks and holding hands. Tom spots something in trouble in the water near a door, which has just disappeared. So after Tom, B'Elanna and Neelix rescue it Janeway cancels shore leave for safety reasons. While discussing the strange events on the planet, ships start to arrive through other gateways and it falls on Captain Janeway and her crew to get then safely back to where they belong before it is to late and they are all stranded.
Along the way there are several problems including a mass murder of a ships crew but the murderer tries to blame an innocent crew from on of the other ships and then there is another murder. It is up to Seven, Tuvok and everyone aboard to uncover the truth. While all this is happening the various ships are losing power and food is running out.
I love this book as it reminded me of Janeway's love of dogs, and the Doctor's attempt at having a pet reminded me of the holographic fish in "Revulsion".
Voyager: Starfleet Academy Book 1 - Life LineBy Bobbi JG Weiss & David Cody Weiss Published by Pocket Books ISBN: 0-671-00845-5 Voyager: Starfleet Academy Book 2 - The Chance FactorBy Diane G Gallagher & Martin R Burke Published by Pocket Books ISBN: 0-671-00732-7
Voyager: Starfleet Academy Book 3 - QuarantineBy Patricia Barnes-Svarney Published by Pocket Books ISBN: 0-671-00733-5
Life Line is the first book in a series of three books that tell the story of Captain Kathryn Janeway before her life on Voyager. This book takes you through her first days at the academy. Kathryn's first day at the academy does not go without its problems. Her father is called away on urgent business so breaks a promise he made to his daughter. Kathryn meets her roommates and begins the journey toward the post of Voyager's captain.
Things, as I said, don't go smoothly for Kathryn, her holo-friend is soon discovered but more about that later. She also has argument over food and her room mates seem to talk at warp speed and are identical.
You also get the opportunity to learn what life at the famous Starfleet Academy is like and learn things that not even the shows have mentioned. Drills, when you least expect them. On top of that her roommates are just beginning the separation stage in their lives and no matter how hard everyone else tries to get Kathryn to enjoy herself and take a break she won't.
The fact that Kathryn has always wanted to go to the academy is affecting her as she is determined to give 100% of her time to study and classes. There's no room in her life for fun now she has made it this far and this means that fun is out of the question. But things change when she takes charge during a drill when the other cadets just panic. When Kathryn and one of the twins fail a drill they have to "solve a puzzle" and as usual Kathryn tries to do everything herself. There are a few surprises in the book too. When Kathryn fails again she asks her holo friend for advice, which means that it's not a secret anymore. Eventually Kathryn learns that she can have fun friends while also having time to study. This book is very enjoyable, it also has some great black and white pictures and has some good advice too even if your not planning on working in Starfleet. It also makes you realise what fun it would be to have access to the technology in Star Trek.
The second book of the three is about young Kathryn Janeway and her on going adventures at Starfleet Academy.
Kathryn has failed yet another simulation along with the other cadets in her group.
She takes a ride and it is there she gets involved in an unplanned rescue mission. She hasn't time to discuss with the rest of the group what they did wrong in the simulation because of the rescue she has been involved in.
But because of this she is invited to go on her first official Starfleet mission/simulation which also means she has to get the rest of the group to co-operate with each other which isn't easy. Not everyone in the group trusts her. While they are all being unfriendly as she gets to know the strange animals that she needs to work with in order for this mission to succeed there's friction between the other trainers in the group and their animals.
The groups mission is a mixture of fact and fiction, the fact is they must go in and "retrieve the probe". Whereas the fiction part is a storm and villagers are going to be at the site soon. So the probe needs to be back in federation hands before the away team gets discovered or the villagers go to the site where the probe is.
Add to this no one is in charge leading the mission, so each member of the group vote on what they should do next there is still friction between certain members of the group as they don't think a women should be allowed to be at the academy or make important decisions.
Finally they decide that Kathryn should lead the group. They all set off in search of the probe, only to have disaster strike when one of the animals is killed saving the group. The loss brings the group closer together and as the group relax and begin to enjoy themselves a life threatening tumble could mean death for Kathryn.
Once the mission is over the group are beamed back on board the starship much to the relief of the away team but they are also sad, as they have lost a friend.
In the third book Kathryn Janeway goes on her first away mission and soon discovers that there's more to life on board a starship than going on away missions. She and another four cadets assist the crew with medical supplies and aid a planet that has suffered an environmental disaster, but on arrival there is no sign of it except inside domes. It is up to her and the rest of the away team to get to the bottom of the mystery. Kathryn discovers something important which puts her and the other cadet's lives in danger. The only way they can escape and get to safely is for one of cadets to die while the other escort the body to the chamber the plan works but then just as they all think there safe they get caught and sent back to the dome. In the end the cadets manage to escape with a little help from their new friends and make contact with their ship.
These three books give you a look at the life of a Starfleet cadet there is also a time line too. As well as a few familiar characters popping up from time to time.

This book sees the return of Captain Proton who we last saw in Star Trek Voyager's fifth season episode "Bride of Chaotica! At the end of that episode, the villain Chaotica is dead. However, on the ships imageizer (monitor) is a question mark. This book continues the adventures of Captain Proton in his fight against galactic evil. He is not alone though as his trusted friend Buster Kincaid and his secretary Constance Goodheart are on hand to help him.
In one of the stories, Captain Proton has taken his secretary Constance Goodheart out for a meal but she is kidnapped and it is up to Proton and his trusted sidekick Buster Kincaid to rescue her from Queen Fems.
This is a collection of different stories and although the book is on the expensive side at a hundred and ten pages do not let that fool you. Each page is laid out in two columns, which makes different from the regular books. There is even a letters page in the back.
This book also has some nice black and white pictures, which add a nice finishing touch but some of the pictures are a bit on the small side. However, there are a few exceptions. I love the front cover that ties in very well with the main story and is exactly how I imagined it would be.

One word sums this book up. Wow!
Let me try to explain why I love this book. Well it's funny and is written from the doctors' point of view. It is a guide to life for both hologram's and organics of how to live life. Picardo has put a lot of thought into this book and has used various episode's from Voyager's seven years to help him tell the docs story. This book is short but is full of useful advice. There are some great pictures as well as cartoons. Everyone whether they're a Trekkie or not should get a copy of this book. It has advice for every situation. However, I would call it a mini Prime Directive it is full of helpful advice and gives you a lot to think about.
Kes is mentioned and thanked for all the help with helping the Doc to become the loveable EMH he is today. This book is very good if a little short I would have preferred it to be much longer as Robert Picardo is a very talented writer as well as actor whose understanding of his character makes this book a damn good read.
This book is fantastic. I hope Robert Picardo writes more books in future, as I really enjoyed this book.
The only down side about this book other than the length versus price problem is the introduction it just does not seem to fit comfortable with the rest of the book. However, having said that it does not effect my enjoyment of this book either.

(This book is set after the episode drive)
This book is fantastic!
Lots of detail. You feel like you are there. If you ever wanted a book where Tom Paris is in the spot light then this is the book for you!
While visiting the chair on there home planet. B'Elanna is kidnap! But why? And who are the people responsible?
B'Elanna gets release and everything looks to be ok again.
The chair use nanites in everything from themselves to there food. Even their tools are programmed using there personal coating give them instant access to equipment. The chair are similar to the Borg.
All is going well until Seven of Nine is kiddnaped along with Tom Paris.
Tom finds himself working as a servent for engineer Zedral (he is called master Zedral later by Tom) and unable to do anything about it because he has been fitted with the chair nano coating. Which also prevents him from leaving master Zedral's home
While Tom is master Zedral's personal servant he makes friends with Boleer. Meanwhile Seven is still held in the prison cell. Unaware that a rescue attempt is being made by her Voyager crew mates, as well as well as a rival Chair group who want to show her there side of the story.
They take Seven and show her what life is like for them but when she refueses to help they take her nanaprobs. But then Seven's nanoprob's go mad and sort of asimalate everything they come incontact with. This mean that the chair are trapped in their suits unable to move but they're not borg drones.
Eventually Voyager locates Tom who has managed to get outside. He is beamed to sickbay where the doc discovers Tom does not remember key parts of his life on Voyager especially him being married to Torres (I'm not a p/t fan which personally is most welcome Paris and Torres are great separately but don't work together).
Torres is upset and thinks about disolving the marriage (that would make non p/t fans happy).
I hope Steven Plzlks writes more trek in future as this was a very enjoyable book.

This book is the last book in the invasion cross over series. But you do not have to read the other three books to read this one.
Voyager discovers a shuttle from the U.S.S. Enterprise D, which has found its self in the delta quadrant. This leads the crew to a race of aliens who for some reason which escapes me (and this is on my fourth read of this book) can make people see there races most feared demons and for humans this turns out to be the devil.
Two things happen one away team led by Janeway find themselves in jail and after escaping have to face their fears in order to return to Voyager.
Meanwhile Tom Paris and his away team have to turn a powerful beam off in order retrieve the away team from the plant. But this isn't easily done because of two obstacles a very narrow corridor for Tom to fly the shuttle down, as well as the heat this thing is giving off. The other obstacle is a constant reconfiguration of the corridors once Tom gets the shuttle safely past the narrow corridor.
I really found this book tough going in comparison with the other Star Trek Voyager books I've read. Every time I've read it I have felt that this book has ended a few chapters before the author decided to end the book.
